Fulani socio-cultural organisation, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to place the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, under security watch ahead of next month’s elections.

In a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency meeting and signed by Miyetti Allah Kautal National President, Abdullahi Bodejo; and the National Secretary, Saleh Alhassan, the group said the former Vice-President was “capable of destabilising the country.”

The group lambasted Atiku for saying that killings by herdsmen would continue if Buhari is re-elected.

The statement read in part, “We appeal to President Muhammad Buhari to instruct the security agencies to monitor Atiku Abubakar, considering his volatile and inciting statement he made against the herders.

“His statement as a presidential candidate is capable of destabilising the country, especially considering that he is currently surrounded by anarchist and hate speech merchants feeding on the lucrative industry of fake news and ethnic irredentism.”

Although the group did not endorse Buhari outright, it called on all its members across the country to launch a massive campaign against the PDP candidate.

Miyetti Allah also slammed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for endorsing Atiku.

It said Atiku was not worthy of being called a Fulani leader and called on the Lamido of Adamawa to strip him of all his titles.

The statement added, “We are calling on the Lamido of Adamawa to strip Atiku Abubakar of his title as Wazirin Adamawa for his open hatred for the Fulani pastoralist and surrounding himself with ethnic irredentist and hate speech merchants that have been profiling the Fulani race and calling for their genocide.

“The title of Waziri in the Adamawa Emirate should be reserved for only Fulani sons with a track record of helping and protecting the Fulani race and not a shadowy character with convoluted identity.”

Miyetti Allah also rejected the report issued by Amnesty International recently wherein it blamed herdsmen for the killing of many innocent Nigerians.

It said a substantial part of the report was not only false and unsubstantiated but also written to satisfy their “paymasters” and further intensify the conflict.

The statement added, “Amnesty International’s hired researchers did not deem it fit to interview the leadership of the herders and families of the herders affected by the conflicts in the areas they claimed to have visited. Consequently, we condemn such selective, highly biased and unpatriotic acts.

“The hasty conclusion of the report, which was quick to dismiss the efforts of the security agencies in ending the conflicts, suggested clearly that Amnesty International activities in Nigeria have been hijacked by mercenaries and mercantile characters that are sponsored by forces that want to balkanise the Nigerian State.”  (Punch)
