Sex toy shop assault: Why victim shunned Senate %Post Title
A shop attendant, Bibra Warmate, who was assaulted by Adamawa North lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, refused to appear before the Senate ad hoc committee because the matter was already before a magistrate court, a spokesperson for Warmate has said.

Reliable sources, however, told The PUNCH on Wednesday that negotiation for a possible out-of-court settlement had begun between the senator and the victim.

The Chairman of Senate ad hoc committee set up to probe the incident, Senator Sam Egwu, had said earlier that both the owner of the shop and the victim refused to appear before the committee.

When contacted on the telephone to explain why she did not appear before the Senate, Warmate directed our correspondent to a spokesperson.

When our correspondent called the number Warmate provided, a lady, who only identified herself as Bibra’s lawyer, said, “I can categorically tell you that there is no such negotiation and that the matter is in court. We have an action against him (Abbo) in court. We are suing him.”

However, top sources told our correspondent that a negotiation had begun between both parties which would ensure that the matter was settled out of court.

Efforts to reach Abbo proved abortive as his line was switched off and a text message sent to him was being awaited as of press time.  (Punch)
