It seems hard to believe, but we are finally close to getting the final season of Game of Thrones. The nearly eight-year journey we’ve been on is sadly coming to a close, but after not seeing new episodes for over a year, I think it’s safe to say we’re ready. The recent teaser trailer has had fans buzzing, with both excitement over what’s to come and speculation as to what to make of the new 90-second footage.

The new teaser shows Jon Snow, Sansa Stark, and Arya Stark walking through the Crypts of Winterfell with the voices of the late Lyanna Stark, Catelyn Stark, and Ned Stark heard as they pass their statues. As the siblings come together, they see statues of themselves, before icy winds come towards them and they must get prepared for anything. Of course, the clip ends there, but there’s still a ton to unpack.

The most popular detail fans have been discussing is the question of where Bran Stark is. But beyond theorizing if he’s truly the Night King or not, one small detail has seemed to go unnoticed by many, and it has to do with that suspicious feather towards the end of the teaser.

Business Insider points out the feather’s symbolic significance to Jon’s parentage. In the very first episode of Thrones, Lyanna’s statue was shown just like in this teaser, with Robert Baratheon placing a feather on it. Fast forward to Season 5, and you may remember Sansa visiting Lyanna’s crypt and picking up the same feather. Both of these particular scenes hinted that Lyanna was actually Jon’s real mother. And of course, in the Season 7 finale, we do find out for sure that Lyanna and Rhaegar Targaryen are Jon’s parents. But he doesn’t know it yet.

The feather you see in the new Game Of Thrones trailer is the same feather King Robert Baratheon placed on Lyanna Stark’s crypt statue in the very first episode of the show.

We’ve suspected since last season that Jon would have to find out his true parentage in Season 8, but this teaser seems to be confirmation it will happen. Many fans are extremely eager to see how he—along with Daenerys Targaryen—will react, as it will cause a major shakeup. The inclusion of the feather is a minor detail in the new teaser, but it’s one we know diehard Thrones fans will appreciate. (Floor8)
