The lawmaker representing Kogi West`Senatorial district, Senator Dino Melaye, has denied arming thugs in preparation for the 2019 general elections.
The lawmaker, who has courted controversies since becoming a lawmaker, on Wednesday posted a video on Instagram in which he denied the claims.
WuzupNigeria recalls that the police had on Monday said they arrested two suspected political thugs working for Melaye and recovered two AK 47 rifles, five pump-action guns and a heap of charms from them.
Police spokesperson, Moshood Jimoh, had given the name of the suspects as 31-year-old Kabiru Saidu, a.k.a. Osama, and 25-year-old Nuhu Salisu, a.k.a. Small.
He said the duo engaged the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad in a gun battle before they were subdued and eventually arrested.
However, in his Instagram video, he denied arming the said suspects and blamed his recent predicament on Governor Yayah Bello of Kogi State, whom he has had a running battle with.
Speaking in the video, Melaye said in pidgin English,
Country people make you na come her tori oo say Dino carry money give thug make he go buy gun. They said Dino carry money give thugs, carry guns give thugs say make dem go dey prepare for 2019.
The venom of a viper cannot do anything to the back of a tortoise.
