White cap chiefs endorse ex-commissioner as new Oniru %Post Title
The white cap chiefs and other key stakeholders in Iruland on Wednesday threw their weight behind the Aremo of the land, Adesegun Oniru, endorsing him as the rightful heir to the throne of his late father, Abiodun Oniru.

The chiefs made this declaration while briefing pressmen at the Oniru Palace, on Victoria Island area of Lagos State.

According to the Oniru Palace Secretary, Ganiu Atanda, the white cap chiefs are eight in number and consist of the Opemoluwa of Iruland, Tijani Oniru; the Olowa of the land, Rasak Aromire; the Odofin, Saliu Abisogun; the Eletu, M. A. Akinwunmi; the Aro, Lukmon Alapafuja; the Balogun, late Samuel Alder; the Arobadade, Muideen Daramola; the Olisa, Wasiu Ogunbambi.

One of the chiefs, Abisogun, while speaking during the briefing, said people were peddling a series of stories about the successor of the late Oniru, adding that to set the record straight, principal members of the Oniru family, after meeting with relevant Baales in Iruland, resolved to back the aspiration of Adesegun.

He said, “It has become imperative to voice out the position of the upright sons and daughters of Iruland on the succession process to the much-respected stool of the Oniru of Iruland currently being discussed in the media.

“The late Oba was the father of Aremo Adesegun and can legitimately succeed his father if the development of our land is of meaning to all. It is instructive to note that this is not an unusual practice as the neighbouring kingdom of Ikate land wisely did the same in no far a distance.

“The charade that some individuals carried out few days ago in the name of the nomination of Oniru of Iruland of someone who has no connection with our historical progress is nothing but an unnecessary provocation which is better ignored to pave the way for our continued peace and harmony.

“We, the principal members of Oniru family, have met together with relevant Baales in Iruland and have resolved to back the aspiration of Aremo Adesegun Oniru as the next Oniru of Iruland.

Abisogun urged all sons and daughters of Iruland to sheathe their swords and join hands with Adesegun toward further development of the kingdom. (Punch)
