A political movement with members in the 36 states of the federation and the federal capital territory has called for massive support for the emergence of former Lagos state governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) as presidential candidate for the coming 2023 elections. The movement also called on Tinubu to step forward and contest the election ahead of 2023.
National coordinator of the BAT project ’23, Hon. Umar Yakubu Inusa said Tinubu is a politician who puts national interests above his personal interests, and will continue to do that if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria. “Tinubu is a leader who transforms nothing into something and feeds his people from the riches of what has been so transformed,” he stated.
He made the remarks at the BAT Project ’23 leaders’ conference for all the states’ coordinators tagged: “the Bold Step” in Abuja at the weekend. Hon. Inusa said the movement will serve as the driving force for the actualization of the presidency of Ahmed Tinubu come 2023.
“In his time as Lagos state governor, staff salaries, developmental projects, philanthropic activities never stopped. That is the man of Bola Tinubu; and that is just one state,” he said, adding: “think about the bigger picture here. If he did that in Lagos and we never heard Lagos State going into recession at the time, what if he had the whole country struggling to manage her abundant resources? Let us ponder upon that.”
He noted that Tinubu mentored people who have become governors of their various states, ministers. “That is the man of caliber and pedigree, a charismatic and selfless leader we pray to canvass support for to pilot the affairs of this nation, and take this nation to the promise land.”
Senator Tinubu was instrumental to the election victory of President Buhari that defeated then incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan at the presidential election in 2015.
Inusa who said ‘although the current trajectory is bleak’, added that as youth who have stakes in the national development, the various states’ coordinators and their constituents must revitalize the system by beaming the light of success and hope, so people can tow along the line.
Head of media and publicity for the BAT project ‘23, Prince Emmanuel Ikusagbe said the movement is a collection of individuals who believe in the capacity of Senator Tinubu to turn the country around and bring the desired change.
Asked if the organization was being sponsored, he said “nothing like that.” He said the awareness campaign was being funded by individual donations from its members, adding: “Our vision is a greater Nigeria. We want a leader that can take off from where Buhari will stop in 2023. Nigeria needs a man that can change things for good; reposition the economy, drive social welfare and secure the country. BAT is the man for the job,” he said.
