Bruce Willis’ wife opens up on actor’s dementia battle, says she is ‘his voice now’

Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, has given a heartbreaking update on the Hollywood icon’s health, revealing that the Die Hard star can no longer communicate due to his ongoing battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
Speaking in an interview with the Mirror on Friday, Emma disclosed that her husband’s condition has worsened to the point where she has taken on the role of primary decision-maker in their household.
“It’s devastating,” she said, “because the man I love can’t express himself anymore. I have to make decisions on his behalf, and that’s something I never imagined we’d face.”
Additionally, Emma also detailed the development of her husband’s condition and how their lives have changed in her new book titled The Unexpected Journey.

Early in the book, she disclosed that; “All caregiving journeys can feel lonely and isolating, but the dementia caregiver’s path often feels even more so.”
“The absence of shared decision-making or meaningful conversations with your loved one amplifies that sense of isolation. Because Bruce can’t communicate with me (due to the variant forms of FTD he has, primary progressive aphasia), I must make judgement calls for him about absolutely everything.”
“I can’t ask him how he’s feeling, what’s wrong, or if something hurts. Instead, I read his body language or look into his eyes to understand what’s bothering him and what he’s experiencing. I compare this to that instinct that you have as a parent.”
