FG shortlists 53 candidates in permanent secretary selection process

The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to meritocracy, transparency, and fairness in the appointment of permanent secretaries.

The reassurance followed the conclusion of the first-tier written examination for candidates in the ongoing permanent secretary selection process.

Out of 73 accredited candidates, three were absent, while 70 sat for the examination.

A total of 53 candidates successfully qualified for the next stage. Eno Olotu, Director of Information and Public Relations, described the outcome as a reflection of the depth of talent within the service.

She said the performance reinforces government’s resolve to elevate only the most competent, qualified, and visionary individuals into leadership positions.

Olotu said the next stage is the information and communication technology (ICT) proficiency test scheduled for September 17.

She noted that the test is designed to evaluate candidates’ digital competencies, which she described as indispensable for effective leadership in today’s technology-driven governance environment.

Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, said the process remains credible, competitive, and reform-driven.

She said the selection aligns with the government’s vision for a professional, accountable, and future-ready public service.

She said: “The advancement of 53 candidates to the next stage of this rigorous process reflects our deliberate efforts to uphold excellence in public service leadership.

“We are committed to ensuring that only individuals of proven competence, integrity, and vision emerge to lead the federal civil service at the highest levels.”

The OHCSF said the exercise is guided by fairness and integrity in line with the government’s governance and reform agenda.
