Japa: Akwa Ibom Govt Declares Two Medical Doctors Wanted for Absconding After Eight-Year Training, Vows to Track Them Abroad
The Akwa Ibom State Government has declared two medical doctors wanted after they allegedly abandoned their duty posts and traveled abroad without fulfilling the terms of their state-sponsored training.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ini Ememobong, announced this in a statement issued on Monday.
He explained that the government had invested heavily in the training of the doctors for eight years, with the expectation that they would serve the state upon completion.
Mr. Ememobong identified the doctors as Dr. Uwem Okon and Dr. Mfon Inyang, both beneficiaries of the government’s foreign medical scholarship scheme. According to him, the doctors left their duty posts “in search of greener pastures” without first serving the state that sponsored their training.
He said, “The Akwa Ibom State Government considers their action a breach of contract and a betrayal of the social contract with the people of the state. Their training was fully funded by public resources, and it is only fair that they give back by serving the people who invested in them.”
The commissioner added that the government had begun moves to track the doctors abroad and would also write to relevant medical regulatory bodies to block their licenses until they return to serve the state.
He further warned other beneficiaries of government sponsorship against similar conduct, stressing that the administration would not allow public resources to be wasted without accountability.
“The state will intensify its monitoring and enforcement mechanisms to ensure that this does not happen again. Government remains committed to supporting medical education, but we expect loyalty, patriotism, and service in return,” he said.
