Lekki Now Shadow of Itself — Acapella Slams Sanwo-Olu For Decay of Lagos Luxury Community
Lekki residents have raised concerns over the deteriorating state of infrastructure in the axis, describing the once-attractive location as “a shadow of itself”.
Popular Nigerian comedian Bennett Chinedu Daniel, popularly known as Acapella, who posted on his official X account, lamented that the Lekki-Epe corridor is now battling collapsing roads, flooding, and insecurity.
He wrote, “Like Play Like Play, The Lekki Axis Is Fast Becoming A Shadow Of Itself, And Everybody Is Talking About It With Their Hands Covering Their Mouth.”
Acapella said the roads leading to estates are in deplorable condition, forcing motorists to rely on children who direct traffic in the absence of functioning traffic lights.
“These kids will pounce on your car like their lives depend on it; your only secure resolve will most likely to tip them and feel safe,” he added.
Residents also complained that estates have resorted to erecting new gates daily to shield themselves from nearby slums, shutting off alternative routes created by the government.
Acapella noted, “Once it’s 10 pm, unless you live around any of these estates that are already gated, you can’t ply through an alternative route created by govt for effective access.”
He warned that the rainy season worsens fears, with floodwaters hiding dangerous potholes and putting vehicles at risk.
“The once attractive Lekki-Epe Gov Ambode created that skyrocketed real estate in the Eti-Osa Axis is almost looking like a thing of the past,” the comedian said.
Many residents believe the Sanwo-Olu administration has abandoned Lekki in favour of high-profile projects like Eko Atlantic, leaving critical infrastructure to rot.
One social media user, Adedakun Muritala Babatunde, argued, “Since they’ve started creating a new high-class area (Lagoon State) being disguised as Eko Atlantic… every other major area like Lekki will receive less attention.”
Another, @Propenguru, said, “They thought they could reduce Nigeria to Lagos without knowing they would also inherit the liabilities. Lagos has become largely unliveable & unhealthy due to its choked-up nature.”
Critics say that while Governor Sanwo-Olu claims to prioritise development, his government’s failure to maintain essential infrastructure has made life increasingly unbearable for ordinary Lagosians.
