JUST IN: Many feared dead as mining pits collapse in Zamfara
A mining pit collapsed in Kadauri village of Maru local government area, Zamfara state, resulting in the loss of many local miners.
Reports said the incident happened Wednesday night, with many people still trapped under the mining fit.
An eye witness identified as Malam Musa Ayuba in a telephone interview with Blueprint stated that at least 10 bodies have been recovered.
He noted that the exact number of those still trapped under the mining pits were yet to be ascertained.
“There are still many people trapped under the mining holes and I cannot precisely tell you how many people are still trapped,” he said.Online advert rates
He stated further that many local miners sustained some degree of casualties as a result of the unfortunate incident.
“As I am talking to you now, several people have sustained serious injuries and we are still working hard to get to those who are still trapped under the mining pits,” he said.
He said rescue teams are working to locate and rescue those still trapped. (Blueprint)
