Man arrested in Kano for stabbing grandparents to death over food dispute
The Kano police command has arrested Mutawakilu Ibrahim, 30, for allegedly stabbing his grandparents to death during a dispute over food.
The victims, Muhammad Dansokoto, 75, and his wife, Hadiza Tasidi, 65, sustained multiple injuries that led to their deaths.
Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, police spokesperson in Kano, said the suspect allegedly attacked the victims with a knife during an altercation.
“The victims were immediately rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel,” Kiyawa said in a statement on Thursday.
He said the corpses were examined and later released to relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The police spokesperson added that Ibrahim, who is suspected of being under the influence of intoxicants, has been arrested.
He said Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, Commissioner of Police in Kano, has directed that the case be transferred to the state criminal investigation department (SCID) homicide section for discreet investigation.
Kiyawa said the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
