Troops repel terrorist attack in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have repelled a planned terrorist attack in Taraba State, killing two terrorists and recovering a cache of weapons.
The operation, which took place on Sunday, was confirmed to be part of the ongoing statewide military campaign codenamed Operation Lafiya Nakowa, aimed at dismantling terrorist cells and flushing out criminal elements across the state.
According to a statement released early Thursday by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the troops acted on credible intelligence and advanced to Tor Ikyeghgba village, where armed bandits were reportedly gathering.
“Upon arrival near the Powerline axis of the village, the soldiers engaged the terrorists in a firefight, resulting in the neutralisation of two attackers,” the statement read.
Items recovered from the scene include one locally fabricated pistol, two Dane guns, three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Baofeng radio, a motorcycle, and other assorted items.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift and professional response, urging them to maintain the operational momentum. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security across Taraba.
General Uwa also appealed to the public to continue supporting military operations by providing timely and credible information that could aid efforts to combat terrorism and criminality.
