Suspected members of the Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have launched a coordinated attack on Ngala, a border town in northern Borno State, Nigeria, SaharaReporters has learnt.

The attack, which began around 6:15pm on Saturday, October 25, 2025, has prompted a firefight from the Nigerian Army, with troops currently engaging the terrorists.

“The situation is tense, and we are expecting backup from the Nigerian Air Force,” a military source revealed.

The attack on Ngala is part of a recent trend of coordinated assaults by Boko Haram and ISWAP across Borno State.

In recent weeks, the insurgents have launched multiple attacks on military bases and civilian communities, resulting in significant casualties and destruction.

“We are concerned that the terrorists may extend their attacks to other towns in Borno,” a security expert warned.

“The recent surge in attacks highlights the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between security agencies and local communities.”

The Nigerian military has been battling Boko Haram and ISWAP for over 15 years, with the insurgency resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands and displacement of over two million people.

Despite recent successes, the military continues to face significant challenges in containing the insurgency.

The attack on Ngala comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with multiple attacks reported in recent days.

On October 23, 2025, insurgents launched simultaneous attacks on military bases in Mafa, Dikwa, Marte, and Ajiri, resulting in significant casualties and destruction.
