White House defends Trump’s health after MRI revelation
US President Donald Trump has said that he recently had an MRI scan, explaining for the first time why he went to the hospital earlier this month.
The 79-year-old president told reporters on Air Force One on Monday that the test result was “perfect.”
“I did. I got an MRI. It was perfect,” Trump said. “I gave you the full results, and it was all good.”
Trump’s unannounced visit to Walter Reed Medical Center on October 10 had raised questions about his health. The White House had not previously said why he went for the check-up.
MRI scans are used to detect different health problems, including tumors, strokes, and muscle injuries.
Trump, who is the oldest person to serve as US president, refused to give details about why he needed the scan, saying people should ask his doctors instead.
According to the president, his doctor told him that his test results were among the best they had seen for someone his age.
Trump has sometimes been seen with bruises on his right hand, which the White House said were caused by the aspirin he takes for heart health.
Earlier in the year, the president was also treated for swelling in his legs, a condition called chronic venous insufficiency, which affects blood flow in the veins.
Despite these health issues, Trump’s doctor, Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, said in a report that the president “continues to demonstrate excellent overall health.”
