A 36-year-old tenant, Akinola Babatunde, has been remanded by a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly selling his landlord’s property worth ₦45 million using forged documents.

According to the police, Babatunde reportedly conspired with accomplices still at large to sell the building located at No. 7, Fagbile Estate, Isheri Oshun, to one Ernest Dumbri Igbinedion under false pretences.

Investigations revealed that Babatunde had originally been allowed to live in the house by the landlord to help deter land grabbers in the area. However, the alleged fraud came to light when Igbinedion brought workers to the site to begin development and was confronted by the landlord, who insisted he never authorised any sale of the property.

Following a petition by the landlord, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, Adegoke Fayoade, ordered the suspect’s arrest.

Babatunde was subsequently arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at Tinubu on a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, and stealing.

The police prosecutor, DSP Francis Igbinosa, told the court that the offences were committed in March 2025 at Fagbile Estate, Isheri Oshun, and that the acts contravened Sections 411, 314, and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty, and Chief Magistrate A.O. Alogba granted him bail, adjourning the matter to a later date for further hearing.
