Fayose Blasts PDP Faction’s ‘Shameful’ Protest at US Embassy
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has criticised a protest staged by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the United States Embassy in Abuja,
He described the protest as a shameful last act of failed leadership.
In a statement on Thursday, Fayose said the suspended National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, and his group should have taken their grievances to the White House in Washington if they truly wanted to protest, instead of embarrassing themselves in Abuja.
He questioned why the US or any European country should intervene in the internal affairs of a Nigerian political party, blaming Damagum and his team for ignoring the PDP constitution and creating the ongoing crisis.
Fayose reminded the faction that a court ruling last Friday directed the PDP to conclude pending state congresses before organising its national convention.
“Instead of working to unite party members, this group chose to suspend key officers, including the National Secretary,”he said.
He also accused them of dragging the party to court over legal representation, despite the PDP constitution clearly vesting that authority in the National Legal Adviser.
