Top Kano Politician Accuses FG of South West Favouritism in ₦1trn Project Allocation
Popular Kano politician and former aide to Governor Umar Ganduje, Salihu Yakasai, has accused the Federal Government of favouring the South-West region in the latest ₦1 trillion project approvals by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Yakasai, who was the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate in the 2023 election, alleged that the North-East got nothing from the new projects, while the South-East received the smallest share.
He made the allegation in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, where he broke down how the projects were distributed among the six geopolitical zones.
“Another South-West FEC meeting was held yesterday. Out of the total amount of N1 trillion approved:
South-West: N789 billion (75%)
South-South: N156 billion (14%)
North-Central: N43 billion (4%)
North-West: N30 billion (2%)
South-East: N28 billion (2%)
North-East: N0 billion (0%),” he wrote.
According to Yakasai’s analysis, the South-West, which is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s home region, received the lion’s share of the total projects.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the breakdown has sparked reactions online, with many questioning the fairness of the allocation.
The Federal Executive Council, chaired by President Tinubu, had on Thursday approved several major contracts, including new road projects and cost reviews of ongoing ones, worth over ₦400 billion.
Yakasai’s criticism comes amid growing complaints that the Tinubu administration is allegedly concentrating key projects and appointments in the South-West.
