One dead, six injured in stampede at Minister’s residence
One person has been reported dead with six others injured during a stampede at the residence of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, in Gusau, Zamfara State.
According to Zagazola, a news platform focused on reporting security and defence issues on X, the incidence occurred on Thursday.
This was as the Minister fulfilled an announced visit home.
Zagazola said the incident occurred at about 7:30pm when a large crowd gathered to welcome Matawalle, a former governor of the state.
Victims of the incident, including Khalifa Uzairu (m), 23, who was confirmed dead upon arrival at Farida General Hospital, Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Shaaban Hamisu (m), and Inusa Musa Shehu, were taken to the hospital.
The injured are receiving medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition.
Security personnel have been deployed to maintain order in the area, and investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the stampede and identify any parties responsible for the incident, Zagazola is reporting.
