FCT Police clarify Yerima’s assassination attempt, as Wike’s aide mocks officer
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has officially responded to widespread social media claims that an assassination attempt was made on Lt. Ahmed Yerima during a routine police stop at NNPC Junction, Kubwa Expressway.
In a statement by FCT Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Josephine Adeh, the police dismissed the report as “false and grossly misleading,” emphasising that the incident was nothing more than a standard law enforcement procedure.
According to Adeh, “on November 16, 2025, at about 6:15 p.m., a police patrol team, while conducting a routine stop-and-search operation at NNPC Junction, along Kubwa Expressway, intercepted an ash-coloured Toyota Camry ,driven with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows.
“ The officers approached the vehicle and politely asked the occupant for his identity and an explanation for the concealments. The occupant, however, refused to identify himself, proceeded to make several calls, and wound up his tinted windows, declining to engage with the police team.
“ Few minutes later, three naval personnel arrived the location and cordially identified the occupant of the vehicle as their colleague. They were also observed taking video and picture footage of the encounter before leaving.” Once confirmed, the police allowed the vehicle to proceed, emphasising that there was “no further incident,” despite the false claims circulating on social media.
Adeh quoted Commissioner of Police,
Miller Dantawaye, as urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement, saying that, “residents and visitors should always cooperate with police officers in the discharge of their lawful duty, adding that people should shun peddling fake and unverified news capable of creating fear and apprehension in the society.”
However, an aide to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, via his verified account, wrote: “You were driving a car without number plate .The car was tinted . At police checkpoint, you were stopped. You were asked to wind down, You refused .
After you eventually wind down, you were asked to identify yourself, you refused .Instead, you were calling other Naval Officers while insulting the policemen on official duty.
“The policemen didn’t allow you to go until your colleagues came and identified you.You left and sold the story of escaping assassination.
“So the policemen, who kept you waiting until your colleagues came to identify you were the ones, who wanted to assassinate you?
“Or was it part of an order for you to use unregistered and refused to identify yourself when asked to do so by the police?
“Like I said earlier, when you are being hailed too much by social media people…”
