Overhead Water Tank Collapses, Kills 4 In Jigawa
Four people have been confirmed dead and several others injured after an overhead water tank collapsed in the Zugai community of Roni local government area of Jigawa State.
The tragic accident occurred on Wednesday 19th December 2025 early in the morning hours, when residents, predominantly women and children, had gathered at the facility to fetch water for domestic use.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shisu Lawal, stated that four people were confirmed dead and many others sustained injuries.
SP Shisu reported that upon receiving information about the collapse, a rapid response team of police officers was dispatched to the scene. The victims were subsequently rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) added that medical personnel confirmed four fatalities. Those with severe injuries were admitted, while others with minor injuries were treated and discharged.
An eyewitness, Rufai Kaura, told newsmen that the tank suddenly collapsed while residents were fetching water. He said three people died instantly at the scene, while others who were injured were rushed to the hospital.
According to Rufai, the tragedy has thrown the community into mourning, noting that the deceased included a pregnant woman.
When contacted, the chairman of Roni local government area, Dr. Abba Ya’u Roni, also confirmed the death of four people and that others had sustained various injuries.
Dr. Abba Roni said the incident is suspected to have been caused by a windstorm that struck while people were busy fetching water from the site.
