Don’t Make Case For Criminals – Tinubu’s Aide Warns Nigerians
Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Public Engagement, Mr. Fredrick Nwabufo, has cautioned against what he described as attempts to “make a case for individuals whose actions previously destabilised the South-East,” saying the region is currently experiencing improved peace and economic activity.
Nwabufo stated this in a pots on X, urging stakeholders to prioritise security and public order over political sentiments.
According to him, the South-East had in previous years witnessed incidents of violence that resulted in loss of lives, affecting both citizens and security personnel.
“Not so long ago in the South-East, citizens and security agents were carrion for terrorists scavenged and ravaged,” he said. “Every family has a tale of blood, pain, and loss brought on by the violence of the proscribed group.”
He argued that public conversations around security should be guided by lessons from the past.
“I believe our nation will be a better place if we do not always apply ourselves to the lure of making a case for criminals, setting politics or whatever sentiments aside,” the presidential aide said. “Nations thrive on crime and punishment, law and order.”
Nwabufo also warned against placing the burden of the region’s stability on individuals he described as central to past unrest.
“It is reductive to hang the security and peace of the South-East on the same convict who, by his artifices and machinations, only a few years ago unleashed a vicious bloodletting in the zone,” he said.
He maintained that the region has begun to record significant improvements in safety, commercial activity, and mobility.
“The South-East is witnessing renewed peace and the return of development and businesses,” he stated.
Nwabufo added that current efforts to sustain calm in the region should not be jeopardised by actions he believes could revive past tensions.
“It is wise that we learn from history about the consequences of resurrecting frankensteins,” he said.
