Osun 2026: Oyinlola backs Adeleke to run on Accord Party platform
Amid the uncertainty that Governor Ademola Adeleke may not be properly nominated in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following the leadership crisis in the party, a chieftain of the party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has said Accord Party is better for him to pick a re-election ticket.
He said African Democratic Congress (ADC) fell short of the standard to seek the governorship seat ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The ex-Osun governor while featuring on a private radio station, Rave FM, during a Yoruba talk show programme, ‘Oro Oselu’, monitored by The Nation, said he would conclude with Adeleke on his defection plan when he returned to Nigeria.
He ruled out Adeleke’s possible consideration to defect to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and New Nigeria People’s Party, saying: “Our traducers will say APGA is Igbo party, while NNPP is Hausa.”
Oyinlola added: “What is happening in our party is a source of concern for everyone, but under these circumstances, Governor Adeleke will find solution to his predicament.
“Our governor wants a re-election. However, the crisis at the national level of PDP, we don’t know where it will lead to.
‘’According to INEC’s guideline, all parties must have concluded their primary before December 15, and our crisis in PDP is yet to be settled. What we will do is that when the governor returns, we will conclude on the matter because we have been talking.
“The good work of Adeleke is enough to convince anybody to follow him to the party he chooses. Osun people are not ready to test run governance with a new person.”
