Students Flee School Hostels In Borno State Over Fear Of Suspected Terrorists
Students of the Government Girls College in Maiduguri, Borno State, have run out of the school hostels for fear of abduction as they noticed unusual movements around their school.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows the students running out of the school during the night time.
One of the students, whose name could not yet be ascertained, said, “Men in black with face masks entered our hostels, while we were praying in the mosque.”
She called on the government to allow them to go to their various homes in order not to be kidnapped like the 2014 Chibok girls.
She added, “We’re calling on the Chief Security Officer of the state, Commissioner of Police Borno State Command and the Commissioner of Education Borno State to quickly intervene before we hear bad news.”
In recent weeks, there has been a rise in attacks targeting schools across northern Nigeria.
In Niger State, 265 staff and students, including 239 pupils, were abducted from St. Mary’s School.
Separately, in Kebbi State, about 25 students were kidnapped from their school, prompting security concerns and calls for urgent government action.
These incidents follow previous high-profile abductions, including the 2014 Chibok girls’ kidnapping, underscoring persistent security challenges for schools in the region.
Efforts by SaharaReporters to obtain a response from the police were unsuccessful, as ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, Police Public Relations Officer, Borno State Command, did not respond to inquiries sent to him. (SaharaReporters)
