BREAKING: Bandits Attack Kogi School As Local Vigilantes Rescue Students, One Vigilante Killed
Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, came under attack in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, when armed bandits stormed the community.
According to information confirmed to Egbe Mekun Parrot, members of the Kiri Vigilante Group quickly mobilised to confront the assailants, successfully rescuing all students who had been abducted during the incident.
Community sources confirm that no student remains in captivity, thanks to the swift and coordinated response of the local security team.
However, the operation came at a tragic cost, with one vigilante killed while defending the community, and a resident reporting that a Hausa man also lost his life.
The attempted abduction in Kogi State comes amid a wave of mass kidnappings across Nigeria’s north-central region, where more than 400 people, mostly schoolchildren, have been seized since around mid-November, drawing condemnation from the United Nations and global religious leaders.
Recently, Nigeria has witnessed a surge in mass abductions, with hundreds of people, mostly schoolchildren, kidnapped across several northern states.
Since November 17, 2025, at least 402 people have been abducted in Niger, Kebbi, Kwara, and Borno states. However, some of the victims have been freed or escaped.
For example, on November 17, at least 24 schoolgirls were kidnapped from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi state.
On November 21, gunmen stormed St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri village, Niger state, abducting more than 300 pupils and staff members.
The United Nations has condemned the surge, urging Nigeria to take “all lawful measures” to halt the attacks and ensure accountability. (SaharaReporters)
