Gunmen kill lady filming attack on Ngige’s convoy in Anambra
A yet-to-be-identified lady was shot dead while recording an attack on the convoy of Chris Ngige, former Anambra governor and ex-minister of labour and employment.
Fred Chukwuelobe, Ngige’s former spokesperson, said the gunmen ambushed the convoy along the Nkpor-Nnobi road, Idemili north LGA of Anambra, on Wednesday.
Chukwuelobe said Ngige was not in the convoy when the incident happened.
“A policeman in the pilot car was shot, and his gun and uniform were taken away by the suspected assailants, who were dressed in police and army uniforms,” he said.
“Unfortunately, a lady who was recording the shooting was fatally shot by the gunmen.”
Chukwuelobe added that a shop owner who raced to find out what was happening was also shot, but he only lost a lot of blood and will be operated upon soon to remove the bullets.
He said that the shop owner is expected to make a full recovery from the gun wound.
“No policeman was killed, and the escort leader who was shot has been operated upon and is expected to make a full recovery,” he said.
“The shop owner was lucky, as the bullets didn’t lodge in his spine.”
He said the former governor has confirmed the incident, promising that all wounded victims will receive adequate treatment for their full recovery.
Ngige commiserated with the family of the lady who was killed while videoing the scene.
Earlier, Ikenga Tochukwu, police spokesperson in Anambra, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, said operatives recovered a white Mercedes-Benz SUV the gunmen snatched during the attack.(The Cable)
