“Rumours of bandits’ invasion in Lokoja untrue” – Kogi police command
The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed widespread rumours alleging that bandits invaded Zango, Crusher and Felele communities in Lokoja.
The command described the claims as “fake news” aimed at causing panic among residents and destabilising the state.
In a statement on Thursday, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commissioner of police in Kogi, warned individuals circulating the report to desist from the act.
He said the police would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute persons spreading false alerts capable of inciting fear and disrupting public peace.
The police commissioner said tactical units — including the police mobile force and counter-terrorism personnel — have been deployed at strategic points across the state to ensure continued safety of lives and property.
He urged residents to remain calm and continue their day-to-day activities without fear, adding that the security architecture in the state remains effective.
“We encourage members of the public to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security formation,” he said.
The command reiterated that security is a shared responsibility and called for the cooperation of all residents in keeping Lokoja and the entire state safe.
