Nigerian Army promotes 105 senior officers in major leadership shake-up
The Nigerian Army has approved the promotion of 28 Brigadier Generals to Major General and 77 Colonels to Brigadier General.
The decision was announced on Friday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, on the Army’s X handle.
Anele said the officers were elevated as part of efforts to strengthen the army’s operational leadership amid rising security threats.
Among those promoted to Major General are O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency, S.M. Uba, Director of Defence Information, and R.E. Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence, Army.
Others include R.T. Utsaha, Deputy Director of Defence Operations, A.M. Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy, and S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army).
Also listed are I.O. Bassey, Director of Army Operations Centre, and C.A. Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Z.A. Saidu was promoted posthumously.
Officers promoted from Colonel to Brigadier General serve across key formations, including the Army Resource Centre, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Special Forces Brigades, and Military Hospitals.
Chief of Army Staff Waidi Shaibu congratulated the officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Shaibu asked them to show exemplary leadership and adopt innovative strategies to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
He said the Nigerian Army remains committed to defending the country’s territorial integrity and upholding the constitution, describING the promotions as a boost to the military’s leadership structure.
