PDP Demands Probe as Kwara Gov AbdulRazaq Allegedly Awards $800m Contract to His Brother
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for an immediate and thorough investigation following fresh allegations that Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, secretly awarded a contract reportedly worth $800 million to his older brother, Alimi AbdulRazaq.
According to the opposition party, the matter cannot be swept aside due to the magnitude of the claim and its potential implications for public accountability.
They say that the report raises serious questions about transparency in the state’s procurement processes.
The opposition party is calling for the publication of detailed records of contracts awarded since 2019, including project descriptions, beneficiary names, sources of funding, and levels of execution.
Party officials warned that the issue must be addressed openly to maintain public trust.
The Kwara State Government, however, has dismissed the allegation as unfounded, describing it as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
Government officials insist no contract of such value was issued and maintain that the governor’s brother is not a contractor.
They also criticised those spreading the claim, accusing them of engaging in political blackmail.
Despite the government’s denial, the PDP maintains that the matter requires a proper probe, arguing that transparency is essential in a democracy.
The party stressed that if the allegation is left uninvestigated, it could set a dangerous precedent for future administrations.
PDP leaders added that the report, whether true or not, has already raised public concern due to the enormous sum involved.
They argued that a state with numerous infrastructural and economic challenges cannot afford to be entangled in controversies of this scale without clear explanations.
