A ‘fibroid medication’ seller and self-proclaimed fertility specialist, Williams Adetunji, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly selling a product that ‘blocked’ a woman’s genital.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, Police PRO, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development.

“He is in our custody. Investigation has commenced, and complainants have been coming to identify him as the person who sold them the unauthorised drugs.

“Once the investigation is completed, he will be charged to court,” the PPRO said

Meanwhile, an Abeokuta-based law firm, RRA Solicitors and Advocates, has petitioned the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo.

In the petition titled “unlicensed medical practice, sale of harmful pharmaceutical substances, grievous bodily harm, obtaining by false pretence, and endangerment of public health,” the law firm sought for the prosecution of Adetunji.

Addressing journalists, a lawyer from RRA Solicitors and Advocates, Hassan Yakubu, explained that the victim suffered “chemical burns, scarring, and reproductive complications” after using the unapproved products.

He described the incident as “a matter of urgent criminal concern” that endangers women across the state.

The legal practitioner informed that his firm would provide all necessary documents, such as “medical reports, laboratory findings, witness statements, and contacts of affected individuals,” to aid the investigation.

Also speaking, Desmond Nwachukwu, a human rights advocate and a broadcaster, said the suspect, when contacted, had agreed to foot the medical bill of the victim but suddenly became hostile and broke the agreement.

He said that based on the petition, about 10 persons had confirmed that the product Tumorex, a vaginal insertion allegedly sold by the suspect, had caused them bodily injury.

The Vice President of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Yinka Folarin, pledged full support for the victim and urged others to come forward.

He said, “We will stand by the survivor to ensure justice is served. I call on other victims to be bold and come out to expose this atrocious act.”

When contacted, the victim said the product was advertised on a radio programme in Abeokuta, as a natural expeller of fibroid tissue.

She said, “I bought Enervate capsules and Tumorex on September 6. Days after inserting the first dose, my life changed forever… it blocked my vagina.

“From the first insertion, it became very hard to use the dildo he instructed me to use for coition. It was as if something was blocking the passage.

“When I complained, he told me to insert the second and third doses. I expelled some tissues, but my doctors couldn’t confirm it was a fibroid,” she said.

The victim described her decision to try the product as “the biggest mistake of my life.”

She said that doctors told her that the substance she inserted contained caustic soda, a highly corrosive chemical. (Nigerian Tribune)
