“They’ve Put a Bounty on My Head” — Plateau Cleric Raises Alarm Over Death Threats
A popular Christian cleric in Plateau State, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has raised alarm over what he described as a direct threat to his life, claiming that armed groups have placed a bounty on his head.
The cleric, who has been vocal about alleged attacks on Christian communities in Plateau and neighbouring areas, said the threats are connected to his continued public outcry over the killings.
According to him, the situation has worsened in recent weeks, forcing him to speak out for his safety and that of his family.
Speaking during an interview, Dachomo disclosed that information reaching him suggests that plans have already been concluded to reward anyone who succeeds in killing him.
He described the threat as real and targeted, but said it has not stopped him from moving freely within the state.
“They have put a bounty on my head. They said anyone that kills me first will be rewarded. I’m not afraid of death. I walk past the territory of Muslims and they usually point at me”, he said.
Despite the alleged danger, the cleric said he does not move with any form of security. He insisted that fear would not silence him, adding that his faith gives him the confidence to continue his advocacy, even in hostile environments.
Beyond the threats to his life, Dachomo also alleged that his family is suffering the consequences of his outspokenness.
He claimed that his children are being unfairly treated during university admission processes, particularly in northern institutions.
“If my children look for admission in the university, when they see the name Ezikel Dachomo, they will remove it”, he added.
The cleric described the situation as persecution, calling on authorities to take allegations of threats and discrimination seriously. He maintained that speaking against violence should not attract intimidation or punishment.
