Saidu Mohammed withdraws from Seplat board after appointment as NMDPRA CEO
Seplat Energy says Saidu Mohammed has withdrawn his acceptance of its board appointment over his recent appointment as chief executive officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
On December 17, the company announced the appointment of Mohammed as an independent non-executive director, effective January 1.
On the same day, President Bola Tinubu Tinubu nominated Mohammed as CEO of the authority, replacing Farouk Ahmed, who had resigned following allegations of economic sabotage and corruption.
In a statement on Monday by Edith Onwuchekwa, Seplat’s company secretary, the company said Mohammed attributed his decision to a “conflict of interest” stemming from the appointment.
Seplat said it has “received formal notification from Engineer Mohammed withdrawing his acceptance of the appointment to the Board of Seplat Energy, due to the resulting conflict of interest”.
“The Company congratulates Engineer Mohammed on his appointment and fully supports this national assignment. We acknowledge the honour of serving in such a capacity and believe his appointment will bring valuable contributions to the industry,” the company said.
Seplat promised to update the market in due course on any future appointment to the role.
On December 19, the senate confirmed the appointment of Mohammed as NMDPRA’S CEO.
The upper legislative chamber also confirmed Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan as the CEO of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).(The Cable)
