BREAKING: Explosion rocks general hospital in Kebbi
Residents in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State were thrown into alarm after a powerful explosion rocked the general hospital early Tuesday.
A statement by Bashir Usman, police public relations officer in Kebbi, confirmed that security operatives swiftly moved in to stabilise the situation after the incident.
“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that we have full control of the security situation following the explosion at the general hospital, Bagudo,” Usman said.
He explained that a combined security squad made up of police personnel, military officers and vigilante operatives immediately sealed off the affected location to prevent further danger.
Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit were also deployed to carefully assess the scene and evaluate potential threats.
“We are grateful to confirm that there were no casualties. Although a building within the staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated safely,” the police spokesman stated.
Usman said the commissioner of police had directed the deployment of more tactical units to Bagudo to maintain calm and assure residents of their safety.
He added that detectives have commenced a detailed investigation to uncover the cause of the blast and determine what triggered the incident.
“A comprehensive investigation is currently ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion, and further updates will be communicated as necessary,” he said.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid unnecessary movement around the hospital environment, and cooperate fully with security agencies while inquiries continue. (The Witness)
