Joint Revenue Board says Nigeria’s tax ID portal will go live on January 1
The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has announced that the Nigerian tax identification (ID) portal will go live nationwide on January 1, 2026, as part of efforts to modernise tax administration.
The board announced this in a notice posted on its official X account on Monday.
According to the JRB, the tax identification is a unique, system-generated number assigned to all taxable persons in Nigeria strictly for tax administration purposes.
It said the tax id will be linked to the national identification number for individuals and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number for businesses and organisations.
The board explained that the new tax id will replace previously issued tax identification numbers from the effective date.
It added that the introduction of the tax id will not result in bank account deductions or closures due to non-compliance.
The JRB said the portal is designed to provide unified identification for taxpayers, simplify access to tax-related services, and ensure nationwide accessibility.
The board urged taxpayers to retrieve their tax id through the designated portal or visit the nearest tax office for further assistance.
