Seven Farmers Killed In Fresh Plateau Attack
At least seven farmers have been killed in a fresh attack on Bum community in Chugwi, Vwang District, Jos South Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
Residents said the attack occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when most villagers were already asleep.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, said the bodies of the victims had been recovered, while search and rescue operations were still ongoing in the area.
According to him, the attack came despite prior security alerts warning that several communities in Jos South Local Government Area were under threat.
“According to local sources, the tragic incident occurred despite an earlier security alert indicating that some communities in Jos South LGA had been earmarked for possible attacks,” Tengwong said.
“Sadly, Bum community has now fallen victim to this renewed wave of violence. This attack adds to the growing list of assaults on innocent rural communities in Plateau State, further heightening concerns over the safety of lives and property, particularly during festive periods meant for peace and celebration.”
He added that the association was closely monitoring developments in the area and would continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
“The Berom Youths Moulder-Association is following the situation closely and will keep the public informed as events unfold,” he said.
Meanwhile, efforts to obtain official reactions from security agencies were unsuccessful as of press time. The spokespersons for Operation Enduring Peace and the Plateau State Police Command, Major Samson Zhakom and SP Alabo Alfred respectively, had yet to respond to inquiries from Daily Trust regarding the incident.
