No Second Chance for Fubara — Wike Declares Him Unfit to Lead Rivers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ruled out any possibility of a second chance for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

He said the governor has shown clear signs of leadership failure.

According to him, Rivers State cannot be entrusted to a leader who has lost control of key political structures.

Wike stated that effective governance requires cooperation. He said any governor who cannot work with local government chairmen, lawmakers, and other stakeholders lacks the capacity to lead.

He stressed that leadership goes beyond holding office. It demands political balance, consultation, and respect for agreements.

The former Rivers governor made the remarks on Friday during a “thank you visit” to Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.

He was addressing supporters under what he described as the “Renewed Hope Family.” The gathering was part of his ongoing tour across the state.

Wike said Rivers people deserve stable leadership. He warned that the state cannot afford confusion at the top. He accused Governor Fubara of failing to respect agreements reached during a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, such actions weaken governance and damage trust.

He reminded the audience that his visits to local government areas began last week. He said the outreach was meant to appreciate loyal supporters and also clarify political positions ahead of future developments in the state.

During the interaction, Wike dismissed claims that some political actors who previously supported Atiku Abubakar now hold strategic relevance. He questioned their political value, noting their poor electoral performance in the last election.

He said, “We must make decisions. I heard somebody saying that those who worked for Atiku are back. They couldn’t give Atiku 10 percent. So what is the political advantage? I will not call their names because you all know them.

“We will do all we can to see that we give President Bola Tinubu all the total support that he requires.

“Money cannot solve this problem the governor has started. Tell the Rivers people what was discussed with the President. If you succeed with the first one that was resolved, you will not succeed with the second one.

“There cannot be two captains in one ship. So whoever is assuring you that when you shout on your mandate that all is well, then you are wrong.

“Someone who cannot relate with the Local Government Chairmen, state assembly members, National Assembly members, and other stakeholders cannot provide good leadership.”

Wike’s comments further deepen the political tension in Rivers State. The crisis has continued to divide party structures and government institutions.
His statements suggest that reconciliation may no longer be an option, at least from his camp.
