PRP Calls On Nigerians For Nationwide Protests, Resistance Against Tinubu’s Tax Policies
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has called for nationwide protest and resistance against what it described as oppressive economic policies of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
The party urged Nigerians to lawfully and peacefully oppose new tax laws and other measures worsening hardship across the country.
In a New Year press statement signed by Falalu Bello, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), the party said Nigerians are already “enduring the harrowing realities wrought by insecurity, poverty, hunger, and mismanagement under the APC-led administration,” yet the government continues to introduce policies that further burden citizens.
“As we step into a new year, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) salutes the resilience, courage, and steadfastness of all Nigerians who continue to endure the harrowing realities wrought by insecurity, poverty, hunger, and mismanagement under the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the party said.
The PRP accused the Nigerian government of ignoring public opposition to newly introduced tax laws, insisting that the policies should be resisted through collective action.
“Despite the myriad of challenges confronting our nation, Nigerians remain unbowed and committed to the pursuit of a better, more just society. However, it is disheartening to observe that the current administration persists in implementing policies that further oppress and impoverish our people — most notably, the insistence on the enforcement of new tax laws that have sparked widespread outrage across the country.”
According to the party, the tax laws lack transparency and were allegedly altered despite calls for their suspension.
“These laws, shrouded in secrecy and allegedly altered at the point of gazetting, despite overwhelming calls from citizens for their suspension, are a clear indication that this government is not citizen-focused. Instead, they appear driven by a selfish agenda designed to serve the interests of a few at the expense of the many. These laws are not made for the collective good but to enrich a select few and oppress the ordinary Nigerians who are already struggling to survive.”
The PRP also criticised the removal of fuel subsidy at the start of the Tinubu administration, saying promised social investments have failed to materialise.
“Furthermore, the government’s decision to remove fuel subsidies on the very first day of its inauguration, promising that the savings would be channeled into social services, has not materialised.
“Instead, we witness a surge in borrowing without commensurate investments in social infrastructure, leaving Nigerians to bear the brunt of economic hardship and hardship that continues to deepen.”
Calling for active resistance, the party urged Nigerians to organise against what it described as unjust taxation and governance failures.
“In the face of these failures, the government’s push to impose oppressive taxes, further taxing the lives of ordinary citizens, must be met with resolute resistance. The PRP calls on all Nigerians to unite and take lawful, peaceful action—including protests and strike actions—to oppose these unjust laws and policies that threaten our collective well-being.”
The party stressed the power of mass action and unity, warning Nigerians not to be discouraged by political defections.
“We emphasise that Nigerians’ power lies in their unity, their voice, and their collective will.”
“We must not be intimidated by the defection of self-centered politicians who prioritise personal gain over patriotism and national interest.”
“Their fleeting allegiances do not outweigh the strength of the Nigerian people when they come together for a common cause.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the PRP said sustained resistance should translate into political change.
“As we look forward to the 2027 general elections, we urge Nigerians not to despair but to remain steadfast in the fight to reclaim our country from the clutches of incompetence and greed. The APC government’s tenure must be ended decisively, and a new era of transparency, accountability, and citizen-centered governance must be ushered in.”
The statement concluded with a call for peaceful but determined action against the current administration.
“Let us stand together, lawfully and peacefully, to chase out this oppressive, non-transparent administration and build a Nigeria that works for all its citizens.”
