My support for Tinubu’s re-election is total – Wike
The minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said his backing for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is “total support.”
Mr Wike, who had been touring some of the local government in Rivers State, said in a post on his X (formerly twitter) on Tuesday that everything was about “local politics.”
“Yesterday, we were in Oyigbo and Ogu-Bolo LGAs. Today, we will be in Akuku-Toru and Degema LGAs. Here, it is local politics, and our support for Mr President is total,” he wrote.
His comments came amid the rift with the national secretary of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, whom he accused of dabbling in Rivers State politics.
The minister, who was at Oyigbo LGA of Rivers for a ‘thank you tour’ had warned Mr Basiru to steer clear of the internal politics of the oil producing state, accusing the APC scribe of only being interested in the state’s resources.
In his response, Mr Basiru cautioned Mr Wike against what he described as attempts to destabilise the ruling party, particularly in Rivers State.
He, however, called on the minister to “immediately resign” from Mr Tinubu’s cabinet if he cannot stop interfering in the party’s affairs despite being a member of the crisis-ridden opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
