EPL: Arsenal, Liverpool drop points as United win Manchester derby

Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw in their English Premier League (EPL) match against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.

It was a night of frustration for the Gunners who failed to convert several chances, no thanks to Matz Sels, Forest’s goalkeeper.

Arsenal created chances in the earlier stages of the match: Victor Gyokores with a blocked shot when through on goal, Gabriel Martinelli missed the far post with another effort, while Declan Rice’s effort was saved by Sels.

The goalkeeper produced a better stop from Bukayo Saka’s looping header in the second half as he frustrated Arsenal’s best efforts.

Merino also headed wide from a Rice free kick and that was the last look-in at Forest’s goal, as the hosts held on in the latter stages to pick up a point.

The draw is Arsenal second on the bounce as Mikel Arteta’s side extended their lead at the top to seven points with 50 points from 22 matches.

They are trailed by second-placed Manchester City who lost 2-0 at Old Trafford to Manchester United on Michael Carrick’s first game as the interim manager.

Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu were the goal scorers as Man City failed to win for the fourth consecutive EPL match.

Liverpool were also held to a surprise 1-1 draw by lowly Burnley, while Chelsea defeated Brentford.
