Asake, Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid have reached Fela’s legendary status – Shaffy Bello
Shaffy Bello says she believes Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy have attained a legendary status equal to the late Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti.
The Nollywood star and singer spoke about the music industry during the first episode of her podcast ‘What I Know’.
The discussion was prompted by guest Korty EO, who asked, “Who are the people you think would reach a legendary status as big and impactful as someone like Fela?”
Shaffy responded that several contemporary artistes have already crossed that threshold. She emphasised that international recognition, wealth, and cultural influence are key markers of such status.
The actress said she considers Afrobeats ‘Big 3’ as having achieved that status, noting that Asake also belongs in the conversation.
“I feel like some of our guys have reached that status. They have reached it already, international recognition is what we affirm as reaching that level. The money obviously too and the power. All of that put together, I personally feel like our Big 3 or Big 4 have reached that level. I mean Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Asake is even there,” she said.
Bello’s comments come in the wake of the ongoing feud between Seun Kuti and Wizkid.
The tension began last week when Seun criticised Wizkid’s fanbase for what he perceived as disrespectful comparisons between the ‘Ojuelegba’ hitmaker and the Afrobeat legend.
He argued that such comparisons undermined his father’s monumental legacy.
The conflict escalated on Tuesday evening when Wizkid rebuked and posted a series of messages laden with insults aimed at Seun. He also declared himself greater than Fela.(The Cable)
