Naheem Balogun, ex-PDP rep candidate, declares 2027 Lagos governorship bid on ADC platform
Naheem Balogun, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) house of representatives candidate in Lagos, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Balogun announced his ambition on Tuesday at a ceremony held at the De-Echo Event Centre in Egbeda, attended by ADC leaders and supporters from Alimosho LGA.
His declaration comes amid efforts by a coalition of opposition parties under the ADC to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.
The development also follows the September 2025 defection of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos, to the ADC.
Addressing party members, Balogun said Lagos and Nigeria had endured years of hardship that require a new direction in leadership.
“Nigerians have endured too much hardship, and Lagos state is not exempt. There is an urgent need for a change in leadership that truly puts the people first,” PUNCH quoted Balogun as saying.
“The 2023 election sent a clear message that we cannot continue like this. As we approach 2027, Nigerians must get their PVCs and use them to change the fortunes of our dear country.
“The ADC is a party that believes in inclusion. We are open to collaborations with people who share our vision for good governance, accountability and national development.”
Wesley Odeyemi, ADC chairman in Alimosho, also expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections.
