“A significant and resonant moment is unfolding within the cultural and political landscape of the Yoruba nation.
“In a move that speaks to profound recognition and royal endorsement, His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II is set to bestow a weighty chieftaincy title upon one of the most iconic and contentious figures of recent times, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho. He will be installed with the revered title of Àare Akoni Oodua Worldwide.
This decision is far from a routine honour. It is a deliberate and powerful affirmation from the foremost Yoruba throne.
“The title itself, Akoni, translates to a brave warrior or a valiant one, a designation steeped in history and respect. By appending ‘Oodua Worldwide’, the Ooni elevates this recognition to a global scale, acknowledging Igboho’s influence far beyond Nigeria’s borders.
“The justification from the palace is clear and compelling. It cites Igboho’s courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to the Yoruba people. It recognises him as a selfless defender of ancestral heritage, a strong voice that emerged during times of widespread fear and uncertainty concerning security and cultural preservation.”(Oyo Affairs)
