PDP, LP missing as INEC clears 14 parties for Osun governorship election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared 14 political parties to contest the August 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun state.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) were excluded from the list.
According to Musa Olurode, INEC public relations officer in the state, only parties that concluded their primaries and uploaded the names and particulars of their candidates within the commission’s timeframe were cleared.
The cleared parties include Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Olurode said copies of each candidate’s details would be displayed at INEC offices in the 30 local government areas and at the state office on February 16.
Mutiu Agboke, the resident electoral commissioner reassured the electorate of INEC’s commitment to transparency and professionalism in the conduct of elections.
He urged political parties and the public to support the commission in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
