EPL: Arsenal Restore Five-Point Lead After Win In North London Derby

Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokores scored twice each to lead Arsenal to a resounding 4-1 win over Tottenham in the English Premier League North London derby on Sunday.

The EPL leaders had failed to win their last two league matches and with Manchester City closing the gap to two points, and the derby was a must-win encounter to re-assert their title credentials.

Mikel Arteta’s men put on a commanding display thanks to their attackers with a repeat of the same scoreline in the reverse fixture at Emirates stadium last November, on a day Igor Tudor took charge of his first match with the Lillywhites.

The England international put Arsenal ahead on 32 minutes with a swivel and shot into the net from six yards out, but the lead lasted only two minutes, Randal Kolo Muani dispatched a low shot into the far corner after dispossessing Declan Rice on the edge of the area.

The Gunners regained the lead two minutes into the second half with a fine strike from Viktor Gyokores. The Swede collected Jurrien Timber’s pass and unleashed an unstoppable shot for 2-1.

Kolo Muani thought he had leveled again but VAR ruled out his effort for a foul on Gabriel, and Arsenal capitalized with the third goal and Eze’s second of the day on 61 minutes, before Gyokores curled into the far corner in added time to seal a fifth consecutive win over Tottenham.

Arsenal have 61 points from 28 matches, five more than second-placed Manchester City who have played a game less, with ten matches left in the title race.
