Fubara Appoints New SSG, Chief Of Staff
Barely two weeks after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the political crisis in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appointed Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
Dr. Wokoma replaces Dr. Benibo Anabraba, who was appointed shortly after Governor Fubara resumed office following the emergency rule period in the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Onwuka Nzeshi, the new SSG is scheduled to be sworn in today at 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council (Exco) Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.
In a related development, Governor Fubara has also replaced his longtime political ally and former factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Edison Ehi, as Chief of Staff. Barrister Sunny Ewule has been appointed as his replacement.
Ewule will also be sworn in alongside the new SSG at the Government House.
Ehi, who served as Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly at the inception of Governor Fubara’s administration, declined to move a motion for the governor’s impeachment when the political crisis first erupted in 2023.
He subsequently led a four-member group of lawmakers that formed a factional assembly and declared the seats of 27 lawmakers vacant following their alleged defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ehi later resigned from the Assembly after President Tinubu’s initial intervention in the dispute between Fubara and his predecessor. He was subsequently appointed Chief of Staff.
The statement by the Governor’s spokesman reads: “The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff (CoS). Both appointments take immediate effect.
“The new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, February 26, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Exco Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.”
