Diddy set for earlier prison release
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the US rapper, is reportedly set to be released from prison about six weeks earlier than previously scheduled as he continues his appeal against a four-year sentence.
According to public records of the Federal Bureau of Prisons cited by Page Six, Combs’ projected release date has been adjusted from June 4, 2028, to April 25, 2028.
The shift, according to the news outlet, comes after the rapper was accepted into a drug-abuse rehabilitation programme in November. Participation in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) can make inmates eligible for sentence reductions.
Reacting to his acceptance into the programme at the time, a representative for the music executive said Combs was committed to rehabilitation.
“Mr. Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start. He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth, and committed to positive change,” the statement read.
Diddy’s release date has been revised before. In November 2025, his projected release was pushed back from May 8, 2028, to June 4, 2028, after he allegedly violated multiple prison rules.
The latest adjustment comes amid his ongoing legal battle.
In December, Combs filed an appeal challenging his conviction and sentence. In court documents, his lawyers sought his immediate release, arguing for either a reversal of the conviction or a reduced sentence.
Prosecutors opposed the appeal in February, urging the court to uphold the conviction and the four-year term.
Combs was arrested in September 2024 after more than 120 accusers, including a minor, came forward with allegations of kidnapping, blackmail, abuse and prostitution-related crimes.
In October, Diddy was sentenced to more than four years in prison by Arun Subramanian at the New York courthouse after being convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution.
The music mogul was initially in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He is, however, now serving his sentence at FCI Fort Dix, a federal low-security prison in New Jersey. He was transferred there in late October 2025 after being convicted.
The rapper’s defense team had reached out to Trump seeking a pardon. The US president had initially weighed the possibility of granting a full presidential pardon to Diddy before dampening the prospect.
Trump, however, refused to grant clemency to the rapper in January.
