Kwara gov’s ex-aide jailed for obstructing police officer
Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, a former aide to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who is also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment by the Kwara State High Court.
He was found guilty for obstructing a police officer and disturbing public peace.
The judgment was delivered by Justice E. B. Muhammed after a trial that lasted three years.
Kehinde Eleja (SAN) represented Esinrogunjo in the case.
The former governor’s aide was found guilty of interfering with lawful police duties and engaging in conduct capable of causing a breach of peace.
He was sentenced to three months imprisonment without fine option for obstructing a police officer, identified during the trial as Sergeant James, while carrying out his lawful duties.
He was also handed an additional six-month jail term for disturbing public peace, with an option of a N2,000 fine in lieu of the six-month sentence.
The prosecution presented four witnesses, including the police officer who was impeded by the convict, before concluding the case.
Esinrogunjo is also facing charges in connection with a separate rape allegation involving a 15-year-old girl, Aishat Kamardeen.
The charge, instituted by the Kwara State Government, alleges unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.
On Wednesday in court, Esinrogunjo’s lawyer, Barrister Oyeyipo from J.S Bamgboye (SAN), requested time until June to study an amended process filed in the case.
