Obasogie Cleared Of Match-Fixing, Gambling Allegation In Tanzania
Singida Black Stars of Tanzania has cleared Nigerian goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, of match-fixing and gambling allegations.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria reserve goalkeeper was declared innocent in a statement released by club CEO, Jonathan Kassano, on Saturday.
Obasogie was accused of match-fixing following a string of errors, and the former Bendel Insurance captain was suspended for three months by the club’s disciplinary committee pending investigation into the allegation.
However, the club has now cleared Obasogie of any wrongdoing following conclusion of preliminary investigations into his performance in league and continental matches.
According to the statement, the club revealed that there was no evidence of match-fixing by Obasogie, and suspicious incidents were determined to be technical errors within the game.
“After the preliminary investigation, the player’s defense and a reliable statement from the Club’s General Manager, it has been determined that there is no evidence of match-fixing or gambling.
“The incidents that raised the concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game.”
The club added that the goalkeeper has apologized for poor performance, his three-month suspension has been reversed, and the player has been reinstated into the team.
“In light of this, the Club has decided to reverse the previous decision to suspend the player for three months, and the player has been allowed to continue his duties with the team.”
Obasogie has been with the Black Stars for a year, since joining from the Ethiopian League.
