Bandits Storm Katsina Community, Abduct Residents Including Groom-to-Be Days To Wedding, Loot Homes
Suspected bandits on Sunday night attacked Unguwar Gishir community in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, abducting several residents and looting valuable belongings despite an existing peace arrangement between community leaders and armed groups operating in the area.
It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the community late at night.
Meanwhile, the attackers also carted away valuables from several homes during the raid, further worsening the humanitarian situation in the community.
In an alert shared on Monday, security expert Bakatsine reported the attack and warned that the security situation across several communities in Malumfashi LGA has worsened significantly over the past week.
The alert added that the level of tension in the area has become extremely severe, forcing several communities to suspend Friday congregational prayers last week due to fears of fresh attacks.
Among those abducted during the latest raid is a young man whose wedding ceremony had been scheduled for March 20. Residents described the incident as particularly tragic for the family.
However, about three years ago, the victim’s father was also abducted by bandits and later developed paralysis reportedly linked to the psychological and physical trauma he suffered during captivity.
The latest attack has raised fresh concerns among residents who say the raids are occurring despite reports of a peace arrangement between community stakeholders in Malumfashi LGA and bandit groups operating in the area.
Many community members have called for urgent intervention from security agencies to prevent further attacks and secure the release of those abducted.
