DR Congo Squad Announce For World Cup Playoff Amid Nigerian Appeal
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has officially announced its squad for the forthcoming intercontinental World Cup playoff, even as a formal protest from Nigeria regarding the preceding African playoff result remains outstanding.
Sébastien Desabre, head coach of the Leopards, unveiled the selection on Wednesday night. This comes as the team ramps up preparations for the crucial playoff fixture, scheduled to be held in Mexico later this month.
DR Congo secured their spot in this final playoff round after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Super Eagles in the African qualifying playoff.
However, the legitimacy of this result is currently under review following a protest lodged with FIFA by the Nigerian football authorities, who are seeking an investigation into the circumstances of the match.
With the intercontinental playoff rapidly approaching at the end of March, it is uncertain whether FIFA will issue a ruling on Nigeria’s appeal before the match takes place. Despite this ongoing situation, the DR Congo national team is pressing ahead with its preparations, having released their squad as they strive to secure qualification for the FIFA World Cup via this ultimate playoff stage.
